Product safety recall for Yoto Mini (2021 – 2023 edition)


If you own an affected Yoto Mini (2021-2023 edition) we invite you to order your free Battery Replacement Kit by following the steps below. When your Battery Replacement Kit is ready to ship, you will receive an email with an estimated delivery date.

The kit will be available free of charge, and will contain a new replacement battery from a new supplier, required tools and detailed instructions on how to change the battery in your Yoto Mini device.

If you're based in Australia, the local regulator, ACCC, has advised customers to stop using their Yoto Mini devices until the battery has been replaced, even if the Smart Cable is being used. Do not reuse the old battery or keep it as a spare.

To order your free Battery Replacement Kit, you will need the email address that your Yoto Mini is registered with to log in, and your Yoto Mini close by to check the base for the serial number.

Yes, Yoto Mini (2021 - 2023 edition) users should order a free Battery Replacement Kit. Registered owners will have received an email from Yoto with further instructions. The kit will contain a replacement battery from a new supplier, as well as the required tools and detailed instructions on how to change the battery. The new battery will remove the risk of battery overheating.

Affected units were sold between 2021 and 2023 and generally have a serial number starting 1FE-8FE. But there are exceptions to this, so please read on for the details. Customers can log into yotoplay.com/recall/brk web portal and enter the 14 digit serial number (found on the base of the Mini) and the website will automatically identify if you are affected and eligible for a free Battery Replacement Kit or not.

Yoto Minis (2024 Edition) are unaffected and do not require a Battery Replacement Kit. They have a 14-digit Serial Number that either:

  • starts with 9FE, or;
  • starts with AFE, BFE, CFE, etc. going through the letters of the alphabet, or;
  • starts with AVC, BVC, CVC, etc., going through the letters of the alphabet, or;
  • ends with a -H, or -H7, or -U, regardless of how it starts.

In a small number of cases, the battery may overheat when the Yoto Mini is being charged after the battery has gone completely flat (i.e. after a prolonged period of the Yoto Mini not being used). The Battery Replacement Kit removes the risk of overheating associated with the old batteries. We have successfully rolled out the Battery Replacement Kit in Australia.

Yes, you can register to receive one Battery Replacement Kit for each Yoto Mini (2021 - 2023 edition) that you own - but due to shipping restrictions on lithium batteries, we can only send one kit per parcel. As a result, the website will force you to order each Battery Replacement Kit separately if you require multiple. We apologise for the inconvenience. You will receive separate shipping emails for each Kit.

Yes, all registered Yoto Mini (2021-2023 edition) users are eligible for one free Battery Replacement Kit per device.

The free Battery Replacement Kit will be shipped free of charge, using a tracked courier service. You will receive an email when it ships with tracking information. Delivery can be slower than standard post due to the procedures in place surrounding safe shipping of lithium batteries.

IMPORTANT: you need to keep the box your Battery Replacement Kit came in to register the new battery.

Registration is needed for verification and tracking purposes. Once registered and verified, you will receive a AU$30 (or equivalent £20/€15) Yoto voucher, for each installed Battery Replacement Kit. This can be redeemed against any product on the Yoto website. A voucher code will be sent in a separate email within 45 days.

Once you have completed the installation of your new Yoto Mini battery, scan the QR code found on the outside of the packaging to complete a form and register your new battery. Scanning the code on the box will auto collect the battery serial number for ease.

Detailed written instructions and a step by step video are available here. There is also a QR code on the underside of the replacement kit lid which when scanned will take you to more instructions and the step-by-step video guide.

The kit will include all the tools that you need including the battery subassembly, spare screws, prising tool, screwdriver and replacement rubber feet for your Yoto Mini.

Once you have completed the installation of your new Yoto Mini battery, please scan the QR code on the outside of the packaging to complete a form and register your new battery. This step is very important, as it will allow us to verify the new battery in order to send your voucher.
